In this post we'll mainly talk about off-site optimization.

On-site optimization is what is directly on your page.

Several things you should do are:

Place keywords in your &lt title&gt&lt/title&gt tags.

Place keywords inside &lt h1&gt&lt/h1&gt tags.

Place keywords inside &lt b&gt&lt/b&gt tags.
Make sure your keyword density is 3%+

Off-site SEO consists mainly of link-building. The more links to your site the better.

Here's a list of directories in which you should submit your site, ordered by pagerank.
http://www.web-directories.ws

I recommend using this criteria to pick which ones you submit to:

Free: PR 1+ (Having PR means they've been around a bit and should be less likely to disappear)
Reciprocal: PR 3+
Paid: PR 6+

Once you've done that, join a co-op or three. These are pretty much a service in which you link to some people and others link to you. Some services are:

http://www.receivelinks.com/
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tool/ad-network
http://www.link-vault.com/

Once you've done that, I recommend writing articles and submitting them to article directories. Why give your content out for free? Each article is required to have a link to you. Not only do you get links from the article directories, but you also get links from people who get the articles and use them for their site.

Here's a list of good article directories:
http://www.chattous.com/article-directories/

Once you've done that, find your relevant article on
www.wikipedia.com
and add your link there. If it's removed for spam, don't add it again.

Then, whenever you have something interesting, add it to these sites:
www.slashdot.org
www.digg.com
www.shoutwire.com
www.reddit.com
www.fark.com
www.stumbleupon.com
www.furl.com
del.icio.us
www.i-am-bored.com
www.shadows.com
www.netscape.com
www.boingboing.net
www.lifehacker.com
www.boredatwork.com
www.metafilter.com
http://ekstreme.com/socializer/

If you're SEOing a blog, you should also use http://www.autopinger.com

All of this might seem like a lot of work, but altogether it will boost your rankings.

Interesting read:

Interesting read: http://adsense.blogspot.com/2006/08/phoebes-ad-design-tips.html

I can understand throwing away a penny here and there, but it would be pretty ridiculous to toss out hundreds of dollars every day. This is how I feel about optimization. There are many simple ways to increase revenue, but publishers often overlook how easy it is to make changes. Take the case of one publisher, who tried changing his 468x60 banner to a 300x250 rectangle and saw his revenue double! Afterwards, of course, he regretted not making the change earlier.

My goal is to make sure you don't have the same regret when you realize you could have already made extra money -- if only you'd optimized sooner. So in order of "biggest bang for the buck," here goes:

1) Make sure your colors are appropriate for your site and ad location. It's the easiest change to make that can increase your revenue up to 4x!

2) When choosing formats, remember: "Wider is better." Though you always want to be sure the format fits into the space on your pages, use 160x600 instead of 120x600 and try using rectangles as much as you can. 336x280 and 300x250 are our best performing formats. And since they support image and video ads, you'll even have more advertisers bidding on these ad spaces than other formats.

3) Like Geoff said earlier this week, "Set your site on fire!". Make sure you place the ads where your users will see them. This is why "above the fold" is so popular, because most users will not scroll below the fold line. In the same way, people often look for menu bars on the left side of a page so ads in that location are "hot." If your design layout allows it, sandwich the ads with content: placing a rectangle in the middle of a long article not only helps your visitors read those ads, but it also gives them a visual break.

Just try these tips -- it may take you 5 minutes or an hour, but you'll never know until you do if they will make you even more money. What have you got to lose?

How to build links the easy way with pyramid linking

A new free to use website threatens to make link building easy again. Uh, no"

Google defends itself against claims it wants clickfraud to happen:

The "let it happen" excerpt followed, in which he discusses the economic forces that can retard click fraud: "Eventually the price that the advertiser is willing to pay for the conversion will decline because the advertiser will realize that these are bad clicks. In other words, the value of the ad declines. So, over some amount of time, the system is, in fact, self-correcting. In fact, there is a perfect economic solution, which is to let it happen."

But he made clear that we don't take that approach, by adding that click fraud is "a bad thing and because we don’t like it, and because it does, at least for the short-term, creates some problems before the advertiser sees it, we go ahead and try to detect it and eliminate it." He also said, "In Google's case, we worry about this a lot and we have a number of technical engineers who think that this is great fun to try to go ahead of this and get ahead of it."

Read more here

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://adsenseo.blogspot.com/2006/07/google-let-click-fraud-happen-uh-no.html' title='Google: 'Let click fraud happen... Think about what happens when you see one of those annoying flashing ads that stick out a lot. You know the type, 'Get smileys here!' etc. I you want people clicking on your adsense ads, use the power that google gives you: Set the colors!

So, you want to make the ad be nearly the same color as your background, but not quite. Why? Because you want to make it blend in while letting people know that they should click there. Not too much of a difference, but if you have a bg-color of 0000FF, maybe make the ads be 0000DD., Just a slight difference.

Make the text and url your font color with the title blue (the universal 'clickable text color')

Also, be sure not to have a border, as some people say that drops their revenue.
After doing this, your revenues should increase. This is AdsenSeo, signing off.

Adsense Strategies Part One: Position

Adsense Strategies Part One: Position

I'm assuming you already have an Adsense account and a website with Adsense on it for this series. If you don't go get one here.

So, have you noticed that you probably are getting less money than you should from Adsense? Are you still in the 'under one dollar a day' phase? It might be due to the positioning of the ads.

If you're not careful, you'll put the ads you're allowed in bad spots, and they'll get little to no exposure, or clicking. The average blog reader stays for 96 seconds. So that means you have to pretty much have your ads above the fold, especially if your site is a blog.

What is above the fold? Simple, above the fold is this: Imagine you printed out a page from your site, and folded down the part that the average viewer would first see: the highest 600-700 pixels or so of your site are above the fold.

Everything below the fold is likely to be seen by people who are interested, and, while you always want to keep people interested, the people who are not interested in your site can give you money as well. That alone should boost up your earnings by a bit eventually, but why stop there?

Google created a convenient 'heatmap' with where people tend to look more, the redder the place is in the 'heatmap' the more a reader's eyes would tend to go there. Grey and White areas might suffer from 'ad blindness', which is when people are used to ads being shown there, so they 'ignore' that part of the website. This means that the ideal place to locate your Adsense ads is Big Rectangle in the content, with a skyscraper to the left and a leaderboard at the top or bottom.

Following this heatmap as a guide, that tells you that the best places are: In content, header, left sidebar, footer. I recommend a link unit as a footer, with a skyscraper to the left, a leaderboard on top, and a big rectangle in the content.

So try placing your ad's there. Your revenue should improve.

Check back soon for part 2 of this series.

Hello.

Hi, and welcome to AdsenSeo, the blog about improving your earnings with adsense, using simple SEO techniques.
